Treatment Approach
Therapy works by helping you look more objectively at your behaviors, feelings, and thoughts in situations that you find problematic.
Within the process of our work together, you can explore the ways in which you currently manage difficulties in situations and relationships, as well as how you have managed them in the past. Personal and familial patterns and attitudes that contribute to distress or that provide strength and support can be identified. While recognizing and using your unique strengths, you can learn to identify, develop and implement more effective strategies for problem solving. There are some issues and problems that cannot be solved. Here, therapy can assist you in identifying these situations and developing helpful coping mechanisms.
My treatment approach will vary, depending on your needs and strengths. I use an eclectic approach, which draws from developmental perspectives, family systems theory, cognitive-behavioral theory, mindfulness, and specific skill-building techniques.
In the initial session(s) we will assess your presenting problem and discuss your goals. After this initial assessment we will determine if we can work comfortably and productively together. It is important to choose a therapist with whom you feel you can work successfully. As partners in the treatment process, together we will establish goals.
Treatment is a collaborative effort, requiring your active participation and willingness to implement change. I will work actively with you, providing information, guidance, and support, using my experience and training to assist you in working toward your goals. Some clients will find they may need only a few sessions to help them toward their goals, while others will choose to work together over a longer period of time.
I welcome the opportunity to meet you!
